SANDHURST COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER
October 2025 Edition
The Sandhurst Community Association (SCA) is a volunteer led initiative seeking to build community in greater Sandhurst. We wish to elevate our neighbourhood environment to the standard that we would expect for a premium residential area in Johannesburg. To date we have been funded by a small group of proactive citizens.
Safety & Collaboration
We liaise regularly with SAPS, and private security service providers on behalf of residents. Improved security comes from a well-maintained physical environment where we seek to proactively reduce the risk of any criminal activity before it happens. Some examples; Through tip-offs from concerned neighbours we identify abandoned properties and work with the SAPS to clear these properties where vagrants have taken over. Further to this we, together with SAPS, have reduced the bulk weekend activities at the park on the cnr of WMandella and Sandton drive.
Town Planning & Urban Protection
Our committee has mandated a town planning company to keep us informed of new building development requests in Sandhurst. We are not against development but seek to ensure that the developers and the City provide the required services to support development while retaining the residential nature of Sandhurst. We communicate these developments with residents and our attorneys prepare constructive objections on behalf of the community. It is still important for immediate neigbours to object concurrently.
The Aesthetics of Sandhurst
Residents are disappointed with the overall look and feel of Sandhurst. A key initiative for the committee is improving our neighbourhood aesthetics where the municipality and some residents fail. We’ve partnered with Tasha from Pam Golding Properties who has kindly offered to take over the garden maintenance at the Killarney Road entrance. We direct the CAP Green Team on clearing unmaintained verges and other common neighbourhood areas. Small steps like these have a big impact in keeping Sandhurst welcoming and beautiful.
Administration & Communication
We welcome Benji Changfoot as our new administrator to assist with administration, communication, marketing and project coordination. New logos, flags, and branding are being rolled out — and a new website will soon make updates more accessible. We’ve joined the Ward 90 Chairpersons Forum to share ideas and coordinate community efforts, including the IEC by-election awareness campaign.
Infrastructure & Maintenance
We have funded the Green Team to repaint key street markings – and discussions are underway for a sponsorship to repaint all road markings in Sandhurst. Engaged with Johannesburg Roads Agency to address curbs, potholes, and tarring. Should funds allow, we plan to resurface roads directly with City approval. Many potholes repaired, and illegal signage and informal trading removed or reported.
Municipal Liaison
Collaborated with Johannesburg Water to manage and resolve the major leak on Winnie Mandela Drive, keeping residents informed. Worked with Link Africa to remove fibre cables that caused sewer blockages. A broken sewer pipe was identified and repaired, greatly reducing spills. We tirelessly assist residents with municipal service problems reported to the City, following up and escalating where necessary with ward councilors.
FUNDING
As you are all no doubt aware operations and CAPEX require significant funding. Residents are being approached for financial support of the SCA. We are fast running out of our meagre donations. The financial support of all residents will allow us to continue as a community association into 2026. If funding is not received our activities will terminate at the end of December. If you believe that we can make a difference on behalf of all residents please contribute to our registered NPO bank account. This NPO has full accounting and auditing services, and these accounts are transparent to contributors.
Together for Sandhurst
Visible progress is being made across Sandhurst — from cleaner roads to improved municipal responses. To sustain this momentum, your participation and support are vital. Let’s work together to protect, uplift, and preserve the unique character of Sandhurst.
